Hi All,

i will be studying the Diploma of Nursing in 2014, I have recently been accepted into Health skills Australia and Chisholm, I am also waiting to hear from Holmsglen and RMIT..(Melbourne)

I have heard that some schools require students to find their own clinical placements while others will find placements for you and some schools have only 4 weeks clinical placements while others have 10-12 weeks...

I am finding it really hard to decide which program to go with...good problem to have I know!!

I would love to hear from anyone who attended these programs in the last year or two, if so what a were your experiences and thoughts?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated

thanks guys

Hi Ros,

I am 9 months into my nursing diploma with Health skills Australia at the Blackburn campus, Although I was accepted into other program's I decided to go with Health skills as they offered night classes 3.15pm - 9pm allowing me to work during the day.

My experience as far as the course content and teaching has been amazing, but I have found there to be problems with the Administration and IT side of things if this could be improved it would be an amazing course.

The clinical placements which for the duration of the course is 10 weeks are arranged for you though the clinical placement Central and I have found the school and facilitators to be very supportive so far.

Let me know if you have any more questions

good luck with your schooling

Thanks Mel

Hi Mel, how are you finding the placements with Health Skills Australia. Do you get to work in a hospital aswell. You said that you chose HSA because you can work during the day. I wish the course started later than 3pm because I don't know what job someone would do that would enable them to get to the course by 3pm. Could you please tell me where you work that enables you to get there by 3pm. I work casually but my work finishes at 3pm so I would be late to the course.

thanks

Hi Sandyko,

At this point I have only done one Clinical placement which was two weeks in an aged care facility, but I found the facilitator (teacher that attends with students) to be incredibly supportive, my next  Clinical placement is in Nov - Dec which is two weeks in a sub acute (rehabilitation) setting, then early next year we complete another two weeks in a mental Health setting and four weeks in an acute setting (hospital). So to answer your question yes we do have clinical placements in a hospital.

I am able to work 6 hour shifts in the morning as a work for a pharmaceutical company, but I can not disclose the name.

thanks Mel
