Hello ree123 ! Are you in Brisbane? are you interested in TAFE or open learning?

Hi there,

Firstly it is a good idea to learn what they require of you for entry.

Do they require you to have an interview? Take an entrance test? (they do over here..Melb)

I recommend just filling out your application form as best as you can adding in as much info as you possibly can that may help push you along. If you really want to do it (as I am sure you do) try to make sure that comes across in your application.

If they require you to take an extrance test find out what sort (usually literacy and numeracy) and brush up on your skills as much as you can. If you do well on your test that will push you out in front also.

If you have to go for an interview then try and do a little bit of research before you go in. Look at the scope of practice for Div 2's and become familiar with the types of nursing that Div 2's tend to work in (alot of places now, waaaay beyond aged care).

Have a think about scenarios you may be in as a nurse (dealing with communicating with a deaf patient for example) and think of options to handle those situations. It shows you have been thinking about it. Its ok if you dont know all of these things either. After all its why you are doing the course..to learn!

It's simply that the more interest you show and the more research you put in, shows your determination and how keen you are.

Best of luck with everything : - )

Hi Ree123,

Here is what i had to do twice.

* Do research into what EENs do, always remember that they are under RNs etc and are responsible for their own actions.
* Be OH& S mindful, think safety to yourself and others.
* Find out about the EEN course and what your responsibilities are as a student/contractor.

The last interview was fairly simple, I had arrived at the hospital a few minutes ahead of the inetrview, two ladies checked my paperwork and documents, then asked me to wait outside the office, then I had my 2 on 1 interview, the people seemed pretty relaxed and casual. They told me what to expect of the interview and gave me example questions. The questions required behavioural answers i.e. tell us about the time when you had excelled in customer service...etc. as opposed to tell us what would you do etc.

I think I had 5 questions, some were straight fwd like, why would you want to be an EEN?

Then others had to do with safety and problem solving etc. Main thing is to be prepared, anddo your research.

Of course before you even get to the interview stage you must apply for the course through your area health services, and also go through maths and literacy exams.

Be yourself, and dress corporate. i hope it helps.

Mark.
