hi,

im just after some info on the RMIT Div 2 course. im applying for the FT and PT course also for 2010 and sat the Vetassess yesterday. Im just interested to know whereabouts RMIT TAFE do their clinical placements and how many there are? ive looked on the website but there isnt really any decent info.

are there 3 placements? aged, acute and mental health? i feel i might have read that somewhere but am not certain.

Any other info about the course would be great too. especially info on Vetassess results and how they affected your chance of getting in to the RMIT course. ie, what kind of scores 'got in' and what scores didnt? from what i can tell if you dont get a certain score you wont get an interview?

thanks in advance for any info!!

Hi Jules,

I'm currently doing the PT course which is 2 days per week, we started in Feb and will finish in July next year.

The placements can be anywhere in Melbourne really, it comes down to whoever will take us. For our first placement which was 2 weeks in aged care we had groups at Camberwell & Kew aged care facilities and 2 groups at St Vincents Hosp. We didn't find out where we were going until the week before. Our next placement is Rehabilitation and we are going to either Brighton, Broadmeadows or Glan Waverley. So, as you can see we go all over the place!!

There are 4 placements totalling 8 weeks - aged care, rehab, mental health and acute.

The course is fairly intense, more than most of us had imagined. There is alot of information to fit in! Each subject has either an assignment or exam so there is a bit of after hours work to do (I should be studying now!!)

I'm pretty sure they base the interview selection on the vetassess scores, otherwise experience in the industry could help. I did good and bad in the test, 40/40 for literacy but only 30/40 for numeracy, maths is not my thing!! Most of us seem to have scored at least 30 for each section, mostly high 30's. There are way more applicants than there are places.

I am really enjoying the course, there is a mix of oldies and youngies in my group which is really good (I'm 37).

Good luck :o)

thanks for the info Jaydee.

im 34 myself so its nice to hear that theres a good age mix. i kinda guessed there would be based on the mix of people that sat the vetassess last week with me- i figured it was probably a fair example of the cross section of people who are applying. my sister and i both sat it, and like yourself we'll probably do really well on the literacy and not so great on the numeracy...maths is not our strong suit! however we might surprise ourselves and do a bit better than we think- the numeracy wasnt as difficult as it could have been for two 'maths dummiess' like us : ) ...so we'll see.

glad to hear your enjoying the course @RMIT. were applying for FT thru VTAC and also PT direct- so hopefully we might be successful with one of them. sounds like clinicals involve a bit of travel, but at least its only 2 weeks at a time.

thanks again!
