Hi Everyone,

New here and so far love the site.
I start my part time (18 months 2 days per week) Div 2 course in 2 weeks and in a couple of months plan to return to work for 2 days a week (currently on maternity leave from cust serv svr role). I was hoping to get something related to Nursing to enhance my experience but am not too sure where to start or what to reasonably expect to do. I was thinking a PCA in aged care would be easy to find.
Any suggestions?

Hey Belinda,

I'm a Div 2 student and I work as a PCA, so you'll definitely be able to find PCA work. You will need to have done at least one clinical placement first, but from the sounds of your message, that should suit you well!

Best of luck with your new career and studies!

Hi SilverLining,

Thanks for your reply and its great that you are in Melbourne too as I have read some people saying you need to have completed certifictae in order to get a job (which is obviously pointless while i'm doing Div 2). Can you please tell me briefly what your day to day duties are during a shift? Also, what type of establishment do you work in- hospital, aged care, etc. Any suggestions where would be best to try (I'm in Northern Suburbs).

Many Thanks,

Belinda.

Hi belinda, a day of pca goes something like this in aged care: handover, you have someone to work with (for residents that need a two person transfer), shower residents, help with breakfast, get people dressed, morning tea, ect, transfer to activities, and some paperwork, just writing things like what you have done for a resident, changes in health status, toileting ect. I didi my div 2 training in melbourne aswell, i got a job at hilltop nursing home in preston, north of melbourne. They are always looking for staff as is everywhere! Hope you really enjoy your course, there really needs to be more aged care nurses out there.
