Hi i am looking for help with a QI project. I am wanting to improve current wound care by incorporating a colour (or number) code into wound assessment charts. On the assessment chart, there will also be a dressing suggestion next to each type of wound (e.g. Black, Yellow etc...) I was also going to create a wall chart for quick reference if anyone can help me with this, or give me some direction and ideas I would be very appreciative.

Hi Wombatsam,

I think your idea of improving wound care with a ready reference guide could be quite useful. I don't know if the Joanna Briggs Institute has some Best Practice Guidelines in various wound treatments that could guide you.

The way you progress would also depend on the level of knowledge you are assuming for the users. For example will you assume that whoever is using the chart will be able to diagnose an arterial vs venous ulcer. The next issue you will need to address is the range of products that different organisations might have in their stock list. Good luck with it - sounds like a good project.

BTW - I like your name, I am quite a fan of the wombat :)

Sounds interesting. As a student I have found woundcare hard to learn properly because of a) all the different products in use , and b) all the different knowledge and opinions in use. The more help the better. Uni just doesn't cover it well enough, and everyone on the wards thinks they know best! Tell us how you are going, or how we can help!
