Does anyone know how many hours of nursing is needed to complete the first year of nursing? What would be the cut-off time to go into the second year? Thanks

I really appreciate your question.  It was a very good question and a very thoughtful one.  The hours of nursing school all depends on what type of nursing school that you attend to go to.  If you are wanting to become a CNA, then the hours are going to be much shorter (6 months to 9 months) depending on the school.  If you are wanting to become an LPN/LVN, then it can range from 9 months, 12 months, to two years and it all depends on what type of school that you are going to.  If you want an associates degree in nursing, then usually it takes about two years to complete.  If you would like a BSN, then the standard hours are four years total to complete.  So, I would do your research and understand what type of nurse that you would like to become.  I wish you the best.

Hi, and thanks very much for your reply. I should have explained myself a little more in the question. I am in my first year as an enrolled nurse in NSW, but I am unsure how long I would need to be working before I complete my first year of nursing. As I am only working part time, I am guessing there is a certain amount of hours that needs to be worked before you are qualified for the completion of the first year of nursing.

That is a good question and here is the answer.  It all depends on the nursing program.  If it is a CNA program, the nursing program is about 6 months generally.  If you are interested in an LPN program, then the program is generally for one year.  If you are interested in an RN program, then the program is either two years for an associate degree or four years for a BSN degree.  The hours of the nursing program typically depend on what type of school that you are interested in and what type of nursing that you would like to study.  I hope that this helps you.

Hi. Thanks for your reply. I have finished my training and now have my diploma as an enrolled nurse. I'm working now, and wanted to know how many hours that needs to be completed, once you are working, to go to the 2nd year in nursing. Thank you

The first year of nursing hours consists of the following things:

1.  Check with your state board of nursing.

2.  Check with your employer in order to see how many hours that you need.

3.  Check with the general nursing instructors.
