Hi

I am looking at immigrating to Australia and need some information. I am a Registered Nurse, qualified in 1995. I am currently working in a trauma surgical ward. we work 12 hour shifts. I need to know what the shifts are in Aus and also what level of Nurse would I be? I am a little confused as to how the levels work!

Any help appreciated!

Joanne

Hi Joanne

Im from Brisbane in Qld, and like most states, the shfts that you do varies from hospital to hospital, ward to ward. For example at my work, night staff either do 8 or 10hr shifts, and in ICU most do 12 hr shifts although they can do 8hrs if they want./get up to the 40hrs a wk.

Public hospitals, especially ER are VERY busy so you may do a LOT of overtime. Some doctors do like 24hr shifts so yeah...busy busy busy workplace.

IN regards to what level you'd be, you'd have to ring up the Qld Nursing Council to find out.
