Hi Guys.

I really need some advise here....Im from overseas and just started working as an RN in a hospital this September. Coming this next weekend ive worked 9 weeks straight and by the looks of it i will have to continue working every single weekend next year as well + they have mainly rostered me on evening shifts only to have a few morning shifts when it suits them.....Is this fair/Legal for the ward to roster me like this? I expressed to my CN a month ago that i was more than willing to do every 2nd weekend and that i would like to have a mixture of mornings and evening shifts but that i dont wanna work every weekend, but looks like that hasnt had any impact as im looking at working every weekend in January. I just got married and have only been able to have dinner with my husband 1 evening in the past 2 months and let alone get to spend anytime with him what so ever as he works on my days off....This i have also explained to my CN but again without any impact! Im ready to resign if this doesnt get changed but i really wanna stay as i love nursing, but i hate not having a social life and not getting to see my husband!

That sounds very unreasonable to me. Are other staff also being penalised like this? I've never heard of it before. Can you go higher than the person that you have asked already, by speaking to someone else at the organisation? If in the Union, can you phone them? I think you can phone them and ask advice, even if not in the Union. Wishing you all the best!
