We no longer have nurses, only recorders and administrators...
My wife Jessi came out of c-section surgery in full shock, shaking in fear, mumbling "just tell them to stitch me back up I cant take any more".
I had our brand new daughter Grace in arm, and was using my other arm to try comfort Jessi, but going near Jessi while she was in that state upset Grace.
I asked the wrongly titled "nurses" what needed to be done.
They told me holding her hand, comforting her, and re-assuring her would help, but made no effort to do any of the above.
I did what I could to make her feel better.
There were 3 "nurses" in the room, one was on a computer, one was doing paperwork, and the third was hassling me to give her Grace for weighing, measuring, and otherwise recording etc, which I would not do until Mum awoke properly to meet her Daughter.
So, in a time when Jessi needed a nurse the most to simply hold her hand and nurse her, 3 nurses could or would not nurse and instead were busily recording and administrating.
Had I thought of it at the time I would have asked them to go fetch me a nurse.
Too sad that we have completely lost such a vital skill in our society.
I wouldn't know where to send this writing so if you do then please forward it.
Eugene Kerner.
