Hi Vicki,

if you've just got queries of a general nature, just post them into this forum and see if you can get some helpful responses.

If you are looking for some contracted support, feel free to give me a call.

Hi Vicki,

I am a Director of Nursing of a free standing day surgery in Melbourne. We primarily do ophthalmics, endoscopy and cosmetic surgery.

Day Surgery is an entirely different world from working in a hospital.

When you start to develop your day surgery you would be best advised to use a consultant who is used to developing day surgeries is south australia. Your requirements are different from victoria and the state government reporting is different also.

If you are setting up a day surgery from scratch you will need to choose whether you use ISO 9000 rather than ACHS for accreditation. You probably don't have any experience with iso and it is a little different from achs. You will also need to participate in benchmarking whichever model you choose. You may be able to find similar facilities to benchmark against or join a benchmarking group. We are part of a benchmarking group.

If you want me to waffle on at length about anything or give you some contact details of consultants that I have known for years and who have set up numerous day surgeries email me at work (info@daysurg.com). If you want to network a bit, joining the state branch or the day surgery nurses association is a good start. I am always happy to help.
