Hi,

I am about to finish my bachelor of nursing degree in a matter of months. I have still not applied for any grad program. I currently live in NSW but starting 2013 I will be moving to Melbourne (I am getting married!). So the situation is that I cannot apply for the new graduate program in VIC because I am not a current resident as I live in NSW.

My question is: is it easy to get a job via nursing agency or aged care facilities as a nurse who has not done the new grad program????

Also is it still possible to apply for the new grad program in early 2013?

Thank you for your help to all that reply! :-)

I don't know about VIC but in NSW I don't know anyone who has had much luck in gaining employment as a first year RN other than in a new-grad program, or if they have worked at a facility previously as an AIN or EEN. Many hospitals booking through agencies will not take 1st year RN's either.

I have just started my new grad program and quite frankly I think it is absolutely necessary. Being an RN does not compare to being a student or an EEN in any way, you will be completely unprepared without having done new-grad program and yet be expected to know exactly what you are doing without the support new grads get in a program.

If I were you i would apply for their next intake once you arrive there. You wont regret it. That's just my opinion. All the very best.

Be nice to me, I may be your nurse one day. Remember - needles and catheters come in sizes that I get to choose!

Hi Gopi,

I am completing my graduate year at Epworth hospital (an an EEN) a private hospital in Melbourne. They have 2 intakes for DIV 1 nurses in the year - Feb/march and midyear. Go onto their website and check it out. I highly reccommend it - very well ran and supported! Go to this link.

Good luck!!
