Hi all. I managed to be interviewed by a private hospital and was then rung to complete a physical assessment. Does this mean I have a grad position if my physical went well??....Or do they normally give physical's to more candidates then they are going to take on??? I hate this waiting and would love some feedback from anyone who has had a similar experience or who knows how it works when you get to that stage of the grad job applications. :)

What state are you in?

I am also waiting anxiously for the results of the Grad Programme in Victoria.  I had 2 hospital interviews (one private & the other public).  The private has already done a reference check on me a few days after the interview.  However, no physicals have been requested.  None of my friends have been called for physicals.  I guess that once you do a physical assessment there is a 99% chance that the job is yours.
Keep us posted on how you went.

I think I flunked out on the physical...apparently you need good core muscles to get a job in private hospitals these days!! So everyone make sure you are attending pilates classes as well as studying and working to maximise your chances. LOL

The physical did not assess my fitness or strength ...basically all it was looking at was whether or not you could be superhuman and really switch on your core muscles doing all different kinds of movements. Felt really dis-heartened afterwards..and there was a list of about 30 candidates being assessed for 17 jobs!!

I have a grad program anyway at a public hospital so i am overjoyed and not at all worried about it though anymore....just thought I'd share my experience :)

Vic Grad Prog results where out on 15th.  Glad to update that I did get into the Nurse Grad programme 2014 at the public hospital (it was my first choice).  Just waiting for the contracts, hoping to get into peri-operative.   I have also sent in for the registration, which apparently takes several weeks. I am so very happy on obtaining a grad programme.

For all those that missed out, please do not give up.  Second round has heaps of vacancies in mental health and rehab.  Just do the grad programme to get into the system and the world will be our oyster.

Also, like to mention not to give up ringing around hospitals to check if they have any positions in the grad intake.  Universities are also in the process of announcing their results, and a few of the students that have already obtained a position in the grad intake have failed their assessment/placements...

BTW - my bit of advise. FOR new THIRD YEAR NURSING STUDENTS,  If you are interested in a particular hospital for your grad programme, pester your Uni placement co-ordinator to get you a placement at that hospital and work real hard...

It does pay off when you go there for an interview, the clinical supervisor at the hospital is your referee.

I got feedback from 2 hospitals that I did not get an interview, they also asked me to resend my application.  I called back several days later and feedback was - 1) I did not do my placement there and another said I did not emphasise enough on why I wanted to work with them, nor did I mention in my cover letter the hospitals vision.  When challenged on the placement issue, they did not want to discuss further.

I am ofcourse emailing them and the Uni with feedbacks, so that this does not effect future students.

No regrets now, I have the best public hospital in Vic.

Good luck to all.
