Hi, I would very much appreciate any advice on which course to take , My dream is to become an enrolled nurse but my Maths isn't up to scratch and it's been a long time since I left school as I reach the age of 40 this year. Im trying to refresh by studying basic mathematic books as I have 4 weeks left to decide which course to enroll. Just a little worried about heading straight into the Diploma course and feeling lost with it. Jenni :)

Hi Jenni :) My maths is SHOCKING! I failed maths at school and I haven't got any better with old age LOL. I was very worried about how I would cope with the Diploma course and my maths not being up to scratch but honestly, it hasn't been an issue. When doing calculation exams you're allowed to have a calculator with you. I also have a small one I keep with my ID so I always have one with me. In my opinion, written skills are far more important... there are so many assignments! Good Luck! Don't let your nerves or lack of confidence hold you back - Jump in head first! You'll love it :)

Thankyou Rose, I really didn't want a maths entry exam to stop me getting where I wanted to in my new career. Also if I can keep a calculator with my ID that's very re assuring. All I have to do is get this entry test over with. Kind regards Jenni

ahhh yes, the good ol' entry test.. I remember it well..! I was absolutely packing it before the test, it was the first test I'd done in about 15 years LOL. At school I was very much a 'C' student and I found the entry test quite easy. It was very centred on grammer and English, only a small portion was maths and it was very basic stuff... Really the entry test is mostly Common Sense questions. Things we'd know and use in everyday life. After I'd finished the test, the Educator said it was mainly for International Students who come in with VERY limited English. You'll do great Jenni! Can't wait to hear how it goes :) PS: You'll get so use to exams once you get started on your course....Even now I still get nervous but no where near as bad.

Hi Rose and Jenni I have studied Aged Care Cert 3 , Home and Community Services Cert 3, Health Services in acute care , now Aged care Cert 4 and have just been accepted into the Numeracy and Literacy Exams in 4 days for Diploma of Nursing (OMG) !!! HELP !! I am 44 and haven't studied maths in quite some time (yearssss lol ) I took these baby steps as they got me where i am today . I would check but i received the paper work and there is no Calculators allowed in the exams. Will call tomorrow as it was wonderful to read rose's comment ( Legend Rose , congrats and lets hope i pass and become an EEN before i know it :) Please correct me if am wrong about the use of calculators in exams that would be wonderful to know . I will be sitting for the Numeracy and Literacy next week ... fingers crossed . Any ideas or feedback will be most useful thanks all :) Thanks in advance Renay

Hi Renay, Yes you are right no calculators are allowed for entry exams, YIKES !! But I went out and got the book maths for dummies , its very easy to follow and it takes you back to our school days ,which has been a long time in my case also lol. Renay & Jenni - Take a deep breath girls! You'll get through this!! lol Wow - I'm shocked no calculators. Heaps of people used them when I did mine, albeit they were the calculators on their phones but the Educators didn't seem to mind. You are DEFINITELY allowed calculators in the Administer Medication Subject!! Huge Congrats Renay on getting into the Dip. entry exams :) You should be very proud of yourself already. It sounds like we've come from a very similar back ground.. aged care, Community etc. I was planning on doing Cert. 4 then decided to skip it and head straight into Diploma of Nursing.... Jenni - that's a great book! I've had several friends use that and it's helped :) Please do come back and let us know how you both went... I'll be checking regularly to see your progress :)

Rose and Renay I have a few weeks left to enrol in May, then I presume you get an acceptance letter ,then a date of entry test? so I hafew time to get on top of things. I think your right Iv decided to skip the cert IV and go straight into enrolment nurse full time. Oh that was another question I had, I'm in WA is a full time course classed as 3 or 4 days per week?, as I phoned the college and they can't give their schedules till new semester starts. As have to sort out that little thing called WORK ,lol, Jenni

I'm now finishing my Diploma online but when I was on campus it was 2.5 days in class and 20hours of external study.
