Re: Distance Education of Bachelor of Nursing

I was studying at UNI South Australia as a distance student completing the Bachelor of Nursing and found their program at the time to be very poor i managed to get some placements in Victoria however myself and approx. 6 other students who had also placed at that hospital were told by our clinical facilitator that our clinical and assessment skills were a long way behind the other students she predominantly looked after from Monash University. I ended up transferring to Deakin in Burwood and haven't looked back- being on campus i learned a lot more and had higher developed practical skills and assessment skills in my first semester than what i had learned over a year and half at Uni SA. Majority of students were required to go interstate for placement and my understanding is now that their are even fewer undergrad placements now for Victorian Universities who are given preference over interstate uni's.

Having said that the program at uni SA has changed and does look a lot better but as far as i know their are still very few placements in metro Melbourne as most hospitals have partnerships with Victorian Universities. I did meet a girl from CDU last year who had glowing reports for the uni but still had to do some placement interstate.
