Hi All! :)

I recently applied for work at the local country hospital in the aged care home. I am nearly finished my Div 2 and was hoping to hone my basic nursing skills. To my surprise i was told that i would have to have cert 3 in aged care.

I thought my div 2 would have covered all that was needed in cert 3. I know some girls in the course are already working and they definitely didn't have cert 3.

I sent an email to the ANF, but am yet to hear back. Does anyone know how Div 2's can obtain work before graduation?

Thanks in advance,

TSD.

Hi Soup Dragon

Rotator Cuff here. I am doing my Endorsed Enrolled Nursing in Queensland. All I know is that in my course if you have done your cert 3 within the last five years, you do not have to do the 2 units which are part of cert 3. One unit was Follow organisations health and safety policy and the other one is communicate appropriately with clients and colleagues. You learns lots more regarding these two units during the course of your nursing studies. Where I work I know some AIN who have not done their cert 3, so stuffed if I know how they got to work, cause I thought it was compulsory to have done cert 3 or equivelent(spelling). It will be interesting to see ANF reply to your query.

PS With cert 3 it make a lot of difference if you have done, cause you get a better understanding of things, and I think in shows in the way you work if you have not done it.

I do volunteer work at one of the major Brisbane hospitals and have spoken to 3 of the AINs that work there. One (female) has now finished her BN, the other two are males that are still studying, but in a totally unrelated field. They don't have a Cert. 3, just Senior First Aid and they'd have to have their Blue Card to work with kids. These 2 guys are working at the hospital becuase it works well around their studies. I thought it was interesting as I was previously under the impression you couldn't be an AIN etc. without the cert 3 or have completed 2 pracs in a nursing course.
