hi there, i am half way through my second year of a bachelor of nursing and im waiting to get a job that is more specific to nursing..liek working ina nursing home or something like that. Im wondering if anyone has had experience in gaining employment like this whist they are students? i dont really want to get agency work, as i think that might be a bit stressful as i dont have any formal experience other than my clinical placements. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks.

Hey, i've noticed some jobs actually mention they will take on div 1 students... particularly on seek jobsearch site... You shouldnt have much trouble considering u are half way through ur bachelor of nursing. Just write a cover letter explaining your skills that are relevant to the job etc and what stage u are at with your studies and what clinical experience u have had. You could always ask your clinical teacher to be a reference for you as well.

Hi Sarah,

When I first started studying EN a number of years ago, I phoned up a local nursing home and asked if there were any job vacencies. I told them I was in 1st semester EN and had done a small amount of clinical practice in a nursing home. The DON gave me a job; but I will point out that on my first day, one of the other assistant nurses was absolutely awful to me because I did not know an awful lot, but I learnt pretty quickly! If at first you don't succeed, just keep phoning up the nursing / aged care homes. I am sure if you are persitent, you will find somewhere that will be more than happy to employ you.

Best of luck
