Hi guys.

i'll be doing my placement at an operating theatre for the first time. Just want to ask some advices/suggestions on what i should learn/study before i start my placement. Also, what to expect, what to focus, any differences from the normal ward etc .

thanks. :)

Theatre is totally different from the wards. And do not worry, your placement will only be there to view what they do and how they do things. Depending on hospital and staffs, you can assist in surgeries as well.

Sterility is of utmost important to the scrub/scouts in theatre. Learn to identify which are the area you can touch and which to pay attention to and avoid. Beside that, I doubt there will be any mistake you can make in theatre which warrant a 'lecture'.

Avoid being too passive in learning. Ask and most of the nurses will be willing to explain things to you.

All the best to your placement!! =)
