Hi,

Just wondering how far in do you start the "prac" side of the course. Am in contact with a host who is happy to take me on but am wondering when I should start to organise dates etc.

Hi Megsie,
Are you talking about the cert 3 in aged care here?
If so, when you do your prac will depend on who you're doing it with - i believe (though i could be wrong..) that with TAFE you must complete all modules before doing work placement.
In my course (through a community college) we had to complete the personal care unit and do our manual handling training first then we could do the prac any time after that..
So i'd suggest checking with your course provider first, but it's great that you've already got a host lined up! =)
Personally, i wished that we had done the pallaitive care unit before starting work placement as i worked with a palliative care client in the facility, but had no real knowledge about that kind of stuff at that point.. but anyway.

Hi Megsie,
I completed my aged cert 3 almost 2 year ago through a Training and Eductaion Network they organised half way through a insight of 2 weeks we weren't allowed to anything only observe accept for feeding and showering fully supervised. We then had 60 prac hours once all the therory modules were compledted.
I have heard of many different variations of patient/client contact but mostly you do prac hours at the end we have had many trainees in our facilty and currently have trainees that have 18 months to complete all of it. I completed my course (therory) in 14 weeks.
