I just came back from an interview with a facility manager and I was told she will only accept me if I do 5 days (Mon-Fri).

I know many people from my Aged Care class are doing days and the number of days they want.

Not sure what to do, although I know I can learn quicker in a short time but not sure if I can cope physically especially when you are always put in the deep end.

Can someone please tell me of their experience on this?

Thank you

That sounds unusual. At my placement we can come and go, as long as we can make it for the early morning shifts. Shifts go for 7 hours. On the one hand, doing the whole thing in two consecutive weeks gets it over and done with, and it gives you a good feeling of what it's like to work full-time in aged care (if that's your ultimate goal). Not my particular preference, though.

Hi Louisa,

That's what I thought too, that you can just come and go.  After all, they don't pay us in training but she was very clear I can only get accepted if I commit my 5 days.  It was also my understanding from what she said that if I get an employment with them, I will have to leave the whole 7 days and all hours open because she needs carers that are on call (like doctors!).  She is forgetting I have a life too and I don't look at working being a carer as a full-time career.

Not sure if what she is doing is legal.
