HI,

A work colleague has given you an unclear instruction. What are the problems this could cause in the work place?

and, what are the steps in assisting someone with his morning oral medication.

Please help me answer these questions.

any help would be very much appreciated.

THANKS!!

every organization will have a policy and procedure manual for you to read outlining the procedure for u to assist with medications and what you are able to do ...

Are you talking about AIN/PCA or EEN's but any way if unclear you should ask always the RN on duty not your work colleague. When you give out medications you have instruction and need to follow intruction what the Medication Chart is ordered by the doctor. AIN/PCA or EEN's are under the supervision of an RN.

AIN and PCA are not allowed to administer medication they are allowed to assist with medications, EEN's are able to administer medications. it is always a good idea to read policies regarding medications for your facility and some organisations will offer training to help with knowing what you allowed to do regarding medications for your place of employment

Hello tdc17a ! PCA/AIN are allowed to administer medications and assist from Webster Packs but not from boxes. PCA/AIN need to be trained and have medication competence once a year.
