Hi all,

Im 26 yrs old and am studying my cert III in aged care. I have about 6 weeks left of the coutse and have just finished my first week of work Placement. Im loving it! I was just wondering if any of you have gotten work from the facility you did your placement at? And if so, how did yoy go about it? Did they offer you work or did you ask them for paid work etc? I really want to show my facility that I am passionate about making a difference and work to the best of my ability so that there is a chance of paid employment with them.they are one of the big name aged care facilities and people who work their already have said that they do hire work placement students who they feel would be a good fit for the company. Any tips on how I could stand out and get a job through them??

Any help id much appreciated :)

Thank you

Hi, I have recently finished my work placement and on the last week the Manager told me to leave my resume. 2 weeks later I got a call to come in for an interview and she hired me on the spot. I can tell you that she said if I had not done the placement at the facility they would not have even interviewed me, they do not hire new PCA's.  She had had fantastic feedback from all the other PCA's and nurses that worked there that really helped.  I can't understand how new PCA's are supposed to get their career up and running if the facilities will not hire them, I think the people running these courses need to have a look at this problem and come up with a solution. I was also lucky as I was the only placement at this facility, usually from what I have heard there are anywhere up to 10 students at the same time. How can you shine in that situation.

I got lucky too that I got hired immediately after my placement. Now I'm noticing they are hiring people who got overseas visa which is unfortunate for people like us who got their residency here.
