Hello mistie92

I have been in the Aged care environment for over 35 years and work as a trainer / course coordinator for a training organisation.

I am happy to support you out side of my work role to support you in your new career as an Aged care worker. Just let me know how i can guide and assist you.

The Aged care sector is a very rewarding environment to work in.

@mistie92 you really shouldn't advertise your email address, this is what the PM (Private Messaging) system is for.

Hi Rhondad,

I am about to finish my Cert III in Aged Care and HACC. I have to do 150 hrs. work placement. The people at my Institute told me that they will organize the work placement for us, but now they are saying that the work placement might be delayed. The course will finish on August 3, 2015 and the work placement was supposed to be starting from 4th August 2015. I don't want to delay my training and I am thinking to find one on my own. Can you please guide me? What should I do and how? Will I be able to find work placement own my own?

Thanks.

saanvigs you can certainly approach various agencies to seek if they would be agreeable to be your host employer and facilitate work experience but whether or not they will be able to be compliant with a)the assessment criteria and requests per the training package competency criteria and b) the work agreements as per the industry standards and RTO is a different matter.

RTO's have to seek appropriate work host employers/facilities who are prepared to offer the support and assistance at the required level for the student and there is a formal process to be adhered to. Assessments need to be completed and signed off by the work place and dialogue needs to have eventuated between the RTO and the work place host to ascertain who, when and how this eventuates. Many RTO's have an arrangement where the trainer and assessor has an invitation to visit the workplace to not only support students whilst on placement but to also to complete assessments.

I would urge you to discuss with your RTO your concerns and perhaps just try and be patient.

In Victoria we are including work placements throughout the course not leaving it as a bulk 120hrs at the cessation of the theoretical delivery of modules ie 2 days per week on campus study and one day per week work experience placement.

We have found this to be more condusive to industry requirements/ standards and students have had better outcomes.

@mistie92

You have just started your course, give yourself time to assimilate into the course and develop rapport with your trainer and assessor and fellow students. They will give you that support and assistance.
