hi just wondering if i could get some help with a question for my assignment

What kinds of agency policies would assist in working effectively with this group? (Think about access and equity issues, as well as staff employment, participation in service provision, staff training and education)

I remember I wrote offering services such as interpretator services and food selection menu for the patient. Treating every patient the same. Training healthcare professionals to be culturally competence. Competencies such as understanding Jehovah witness do not take any blood, Muslism do not eat non-halal food especially pork and so on. Asking them if there are any special preferences do during their admission to the ward and so on. Seeking their consent before a procedure such as showering. Some cultural group do not like the opposite sex to shower them and so on. (I cannot remember everything on what I wrote and I changed my computer after graduation. Didn't save anything from my old computer.)

Hope it helps though it is not much. =)

Seraphim is on the right track, include all of those aspects in your answer.  Linking those things to the legislation (Aged care ACT 1997, Discrimination ACT etc) will reflect your understanding that this isn't just something that your facility has imposed on its' workers for their own benefit, but that there are legal implications for non-compliance.

Hey Sharlou,

For an interesting article on cultral sensitivity have a look here >> http://www.acog.org/Resources%20And%20Publications/Committee%20Opinions/Committee%20on%20Health%20Care%20for%20Underserved%20Women/Cultural%20Sensitivity%20and%20Awareness%20in%20the%20Delivery%20of%20Health%20Care.aspx

It shows the issue in two different scenarios which I thought was great!

Then for some info on Italian Australians, see:

http://www.mac.org.au/docs/WCCGuide.pdf (from page 51 onwards!)

AND then this PDF is great its all on Italian Australians and recommendations for providing culturally appropriate care >>> http://www.coasit.org.au/site/files/ul/data_text30/1234693.pdf
