Hi guys

I recently did my cert 3 and where i did placement said they'd put me on casual pool but 2 weeks later they still havent rang me. i think ill ring them tomorrow and see whats going on.

But i also want to get my resume out there. Im not sure what to write in a cover letter. I have done home and community care doing domestic assistance and shopping support with the elderly for the last 2 yrs. Can anyone give me some hints on what to write in the letter?

And also what kind of questions can you expect at interview? Can you expect scenario type questions?

Also finding it a bit frustrating that alot are advertising for experienced only, how are us new one's to the industry going to get it if no-one wants to give you a go:(

Thanks:)

Hello Carol.
Well I am just doing the same thing here, updated my resume cover letter. you have all the ingredients there already.. Hey something to work with. A lot of example letters on websites to give you ides how to format a letter. As you have the ingredients to make a good cover letter. As for what will be asked at interviews will be up to the Manager . I always try to turn any interview into a chat. They will ask the standard interview questions.. I have worked since the age of 15.will be 55 in June. A good manager will sense have a feel on the person in front of him or her... Will they fit in this organisation.

I am actually pissed of with this casual pool . I was initially employed on this basis. How are you to have consistency. getting to know the routine the residents. One or two days in high care then on to hostel. Then on to dementia. My opinion is that all new meaning cert 3 staff be placed in one area for a month, high care then in dementia, then in hostel. Then after a three month probation period reviewed.. To ever seems suitable to work in high care or hostel or dementia. And to where they are comfortable in working.

Hi gigjiz, I actually got offered casual work with where i did placement. 3 weeks later..nothing. Rang to ask whats happening and they said they're waiting on another persons medical then getting us in as a group. So put my resume in another place close to home and they rang me today for an interview. Bit nervous as its with 2 interviewers. But i guess all i can do is be myself and hope they like me.

Re shifting people around. I found that a bit hard in placement. Id just get used to the residents/staff in one area and then get shifted again.

Well i had an interview 2 weeks ago. And it was probably the hardest interview ive had! Went for nearly an hour and there were alot of questions but seems they liked me enough. They rang my referees and i have a medical next week. They are also offering PPT but only 3 shifts a week. I think i may need to pick up a couple of casual shifts elsewhere as PPT payrate is pretty low in SA. About $18hr i believe?
