hi guys,

im looking for some insight or advise into HOW or IF any Div 2s/ENs have possibly gotten into work in the areas of maternity or womens health?

i'll be qualified in november which is a while off yet, but am trying to look ahead to see what info i can find out about hospitals in melbourne that may currently be using Div 2s/ENs in these areas.

long term im planning on doing mid, but thats a couple of years down the track at this stage- so id really love to work as a Div 2 in the maternity area if i can.... im guessing its not going to be easy to find or get into, but i figure the only way im gonna know is to ask!

if anyone has any advise on how to go about this, or personal experiences (good or bad) about trying to work in this area then id really appreciate hearing them. also if anyone is willing to advise me on hospitals that they know DO use Div 2's in this area then id LOVE to hear from you- am happy to give you my private email if you dont want to writie it in this public forum

thanks in advance for any help.

Hi Jules,

Sorry, I'm not actually answering your question here, but I was just browsing this forum after not looking at it for ages, and I was wondering how your grad program is going. :) I thought I'd reply to one of your threads in the hope that you've set email notifications for replies. :)

hi holly, thanks for thinking of me.
well i ended up not taking that Grad position in the end. long story short i had a lot of personal stuff going on in Feb/March and i realised that i wasnt prepared to be juggling those things as well as being a new EN in such a pressured environment. i ended up going overseas to europe and the UK (im from the UK) and only just got back last monday. however i had contacted another hospital before i left on my trip and the DON there sent me an email the DAY i arrived home from the UK asking me to come in for an interview that week.

so i went along and theyve offered me a job which ive accepted. its slightly different this time- i decided i wanted to try psych as well as general, so the DON is going to rotate me into their mental health unit, mother and baby unit and med/sug unit which includes time in day surgery. its really close to home as well so im really happy with that. its exactly what i wanted now, and i was beginning to feel like i was leaving it too long to actually start nursing and was starting to loose my nerve!! i know im really lucky to have been given two chances at a grad year so im really greatful for the second chance.

what about you? i think i saw somewhere in here that youve also got a grad year? if so congratulations! what kind of wards will you be on? its pretty scary isnt it- but exciting too. i start in Sept, what about you?
