So I want to study midwifery in the near future...

I want to hear from midwives or those currently studying about what to look out for when choosing what course I'm doing.  Is it enough to choose the closest University who offers it?  What sort of clinical expereince should I be getting while I'm studying? Is it possible to start working in maternity wards before you have graduated (I will be a nurse after all)?  What sort of placemnts are on offer - hospital or community based?

I'd love to hear from you all...
