Catholic Care of the Aged nurses travel to Papua New Guinea

Catholic Care of the Aged nurses travel to Papua New Guinea to assist the Diocese of Bereina’s Viefa Health and Nurse Training Facility and Ametur House (HIV/AIDS transit and voluntary Counselling and testing centre) in Port Moresby.

Fr. Leo Donnelly on behalf of St Agnes Parish and St Agnes Foundation Ltd, took the opportunity today to thank the Catholic Care of the Aged team of nurses, Sue McCann, Joy Walsh, Anne Hicks and Rowena Topia for making the commitment to travel to PNG on 2nd October 2007 to assist the Diocese of Bereina and specifically their Viefa Health and Nurse Training Facility and Ametur House (HIV/AIDS transit and voluntary Counselling and testing centre) in Port Moresby.

This initiative is part of the Catholic Care of the Aged's long term commitment to share its wonderful skills with those desperately in need.

Fr. Donnelly acknowledged the team's own demanding commitments here, at work and at home, and thanked them for extending themselves to reach out to these very poor and vulnerable people, as an example of living Jesus' message to assist those in need.

The CCA team will meet up with Sr. Marlene in Port Morseby, who coordinates the nurse training and HIV/AIDS Health program within the Diocese.

Sr. Marlene visited Port Macquarie in August this year as part of the exchange program developed by the St Agnes Parish community with PNG that offers assistance in education, accounting and management, finance, goods and training aids.

Fr. Donnelly advised that this assistance has had enthusiastic support from our Parish community and staff, CCA residents and the St Agnes Foundation Ltd. He will be praying for a safe and rewarding trip to PNG, and with the Parish and CCA, look forward to their return and hearing how our beloved neighbours are going.
