Nurses ready for new year

The Fiji Times Online Jan 11, 2008

THE Ministry of Heath has completed its recruitment process for the 2008 Fiji School of Nursing (FSN) intake.

Acting Director Nursing, Sister Rusieli Taukei said at least 110 students have been enlisted this year to undergo basic training for the Diploma in Nursing programme at FSN in the next three years.

"We have completed the recruitment process and have sent our letters of acceptance to the new students.

"Proper classes will begin on Monday, January 21, and we wish them all the best at the institution in the next three years."

At least 245 nurses graduated in 2007, with posting completed almost soon after, as the Ministry of Health moves to fill up vacant positions at various hospitals, health centres and nursing stations.

Out of the 245, at least 174 graduated with the Diploma of Nursing certificate, while 35 graduated as midwives, attaining the Post Basic Certificate in Midwifery.

There were eight awards for Nurse Practitioners, 16 awards for Bachelor of Nursing Science Certificate with James Cook University, one for a student nurse who has attained a Masters in Advanced Nursing Practice (MNsc) with James Cook University, and 10 were conferred with Post Graduate Certificate in Mental Health Nursing.

One registered nurse (RN) graduated with a Post Graduate Certificate of Nursing Science (Cardiac Nursing) with James Cook University.

The James Cook University awards were conferred in collaboration with the Faculty of Medicine, Health and Molecular Sciences of James Cook University of Australia at the graduation ceremony.
