Nurse on-call a success in Bendigo and the Goldfields

Bendigo News 4 June 2007

Families in Bendigo and the Goldfields have embraced the Nurse-On-Call service with more than 10,000 calls made in a year, Health Minister Bronwyn Pike said today.

Ms Pike said families regularly used the triage service seeking medical advice about symptoms such as vomiting and fever, abdominal pain and discomfort, diarrhoea, nausea and chest pain.
The latest figures show Greater Bendigo residents made the most calls to the service with 6727 calls, ahead of:
Campaspe (1420), Macedon Ranges (1414), Mount Alexander (576), Central Goldfields (540) and Loddon (258).
“The Bracks Government said it would continue the positive reform of our health system, modernise service and be smarter with our health dollars to give patients the best treatment when and where they need it,” Ms Pike said.
“Nurse-On-Call is now a trusted service for many Victorian families and gives people access to 24-hour advice and information.
“It helps Victorians decide if they need to attend hospital or a doctor straight away, whether their illness or condition could be treated by a GP the next day, or if they can manage it themselves.”
