HEATHER and Patricia Hibberson took a break yesterday from their remarkably busy lives as nurses, students, mothers and farmers.
The sisters-in-law graduated with Bachelor of Nursing degrees from |La Trobe University along with 57 other students of the Albury-Wodonga campus.
Mrs Heather Hibberson, of Georges Creek, near Tallangatta, also won a high achiever award from the Royal College of Nursing Australia.
Mrs Hibberson and her husband, Laurie, have five children and run a farming property, which means she has to shuttle between the farm and working at a Canberra hospital a few days a week and continue studies.
Mrs Patricia Hibberson, and her husband, James, have three children and she also shares her time between working, studying and family.
The two women became enrolled nurses three years ago after studying at Wodonga TAFE Institute and then spent two years at La Trobe to gain the degree.
Among other nursing graduates yesterday was former Albury High School student Miss Lauren Crossley, who now works at the Royal Melbourne Hospitals accident and emergency unit.
Her father, Albury High principal Mr Ian Crossley and her mother, Robyn, were there to see her receive her degree from the chancellor Emeritus Prof Nancy Millis.
Prof Millis congratulated Wodonga student Miss Bethany Cooper for winning the D.M. Myers University Medal as the best honours graduate in the faculty of law and management.
Miss Cooper, 22, obtained a Bachelor of Business with honours and is now on a scholarship that enables her to pursue a doctorate while lecturing part-time.
She and sister, Jodi, 26, who received a social work degree yesterday, are both former students of Mt Beauty High School and their parents, Doug and Ruth Cooper, were there to share their success.
Three post-graduate students received doctorates yesterday.
They were scientist Dr Dale McNeil, educator Ms Noella Mackenzie and health studies student Ms Andrea Reupert.
