Urgent call for Expressions of Interest – NT Emergency Initiative
Royal College of Nursing, Australia
Royal College of Nursing, Australia (RCNA) has received a letter from the Department of Health and Ageing regarding the Northern Territory Emergency Initiative and is seeking nominations by 12pm (noon EST) tomorrow Thursday 28 June 2007 from nurses who wish to participate in this initiative in the second week of July.
The Australian Government’s recent announcement has generated considerable interest from the health and medical professions and they are seeking the assistance of RCNA to implement the health component of this of this Government coordinated emergency response.
The plan is to have the first wave of health care teams (Doctors, Nurses, Aboriginal Health Workers and Social Workers) on the ground in the Northern Territory commencing in the second week of July 2007 and the Department is urgently seeking RCNA’s nomination of individuals and/or teams of people who may be suitable and available for this first wave. Experience in primary care, and especially in Indigenous communities, will be particularly valuable.
Health teams will be providing comprehensive child health checks and care. Team members need to be willing to work cooperatively with existing clinic staff and should be prepared to accept rudimentary accommodation. They must also be eligible for unconditional registration in the Northern Territory.
If you are interested please fill in the pro forma available at http://www.rcna.org.au/pages/nn ononoptinitiative.php and return to RCNA on fax number 02 6282 3565. Nomination need to be received by 12pm (noon EST) tomorrow Thursday 28 June 2007.
