Hi guys,

Anybody knows the requirements to apply as a deferred graduate in Australia. In my case, I completed my course back on December 22nd 2016, i am aware to apply as a new graduate i need to get my registration within two years after I completed my course as an EN. What are the requirements if I will apply after two years since I finished my course, since i need to pass the OET to get my registration.  I rang and email AHPRA a few times, nobody has given me a right information.

It looks to me like you are needing to discuss with the Nurses Board rather than AHPRA. This is from AHPRA site:

Deferred graduates

If you graduate from an approved program of study and then delay applying for registration, you may be considered a ‘deferred graduate’.

Graduates who have deferred an application for a period of 1-2 years after course completion may fall into this category. If you are considered a deferred graduate, you will be unable to apply online, and will need to complete the relevant Application for registration form

The specific timeframe is available in your profession’s Recency of practice registration standard on your National Board website.

There is information on Nurses Board Recency of Practice page that is relevant and I would suggest direct contact with them regarding your options

https://www.nursingmidwiferyboard.gov.au/Registration-Standards/Recency-of-practice.aspx

Good luck and let us know how you get on

Hi Darren

Thank you so much for your reply

In my case I am overseas registered nurse in India after finish my India study I came Australia and start study bachelor nursing graduate entry 2 year coarse I finish in Dec 2016 my coarse after I try to clear my English test while I am pregnant as per doctor advice I stop my presentation because doctor said don't take stress at this time so i stop English test preparation

After born my little daughter Nov 2018 when she turn 3 months old I start preparation and I clear my exam and I apply my registration may 2019

Last week I received email my application assign with case office they said they have netting with Board 6 SEP but still no feedback so I am worried as you send me link and I read some AHPRA resources they said 5 year gap not valid I have 2 year and 4 months gap after finishing my study and while study I have more than 450 hours placement experience in hospital while study

Please advise me I am worried about my career because I love my nursing profession

While I am pregnant I work as a AIN

So please in my case what you think they gave me my registration or not please advise

Thank you very much for your time

I can’t really give much advice, but I can encourage you hopefully.

I suggest take the initiative and give your contact officer a phone call on Monday asking where they are up to and if there is anything you need to do that will help with their decision.
