Hi all Im a div two and in my second week of the oral medication course Ive just been told that you need 100% in the maths exam which scares the crap out of me! Im not too bad at maths but still get the calculations wrong sometimes. How many times can you fail and resit the exam? The teacher said if you dont pass the maths component there is no point going ahead and doing the medication component? If thats the case then my future as a nurse is jeopardised as eventually i wont be able to work as a nurse if Im not med endorsed. Would love to hear from people that struggled with or failed the maths exam and still went on to become med endorsed!

HI nics69
I completed my EEN diploma at tafe, and am now at uni doing my bachelor of nursing. At both institutions, a 100% pass mark was needed for the drug calculation exam and both offered 3 attempts, however both were slightly different in their requirements. At tafe, it was a sit down exam, timed (30mins) and no calculators permitted. At uni, it is an online exam which can be done from home, therefore calculators can be used. So, just ask your lecturers if a calculator can be used during the exam.
It is normal that you feel scared! We all did! However when you can remember and understand the formulas, you will be fine. It has been a while since I finished high school , and I was a shocker at maths, and even I managed to pass first time.

I'm sure you can understand the rationale behind having to achieve a 100% pass mark on the exam, I mean, it's not like you can only be right 50% or even 80% of the time when administering drugs to patients.

This is a website that I have saved in my favourites, and really helped me during my studies:
http://www.testandcalc.com/quiz/index.asp

I recommend using it, and it will help you become more comfortable before you sit your exam. It will also give you an insight into the kind of questions you will be asked.

Goodluck!

Hi all I am doing this course in a couple of weeks. I'm a little anxious as I still get the calculations wrong. They tell me you can use a calculator only when instructed and I was wondering for what calculations you could use this for. Has anyone sat this math exam and how many questions are there? is it multiple choice or all working out. Any info would be greatly appreciated. Its been so long since at school 20plus yrs. This is the last time this course is offered so its do or die. I am doing this Medication management at the college of nursing.

Thanks for your help

Bec
