im about to begin my EEN course in a few weeks and i have a couple of questions regarding textbooks. (1) im in qld, and so far the qld textbook warehouse appears to be the cheapest and easiest place to purchase them. however a friend said she bought her books several years ago and found out later she could have bought them online for half the price (not ebay). ive tried searching the net and am finding it hard to find anywhere thats cheaper. anyone have any ideas? i dont mind paying the warehouse price at all, but if there is a cheaper option..........
(2) ive also been told not to rush out and buy all the books on the booklist, as (a) i wont really need them all and (b) to buy them as needed for each semester. am confused....why give us a list of expensive books to buy if we dont need them all????
(3) does the year of publication make a huge difference? e.g. using a book published in 2008 instead of the recommended 2009 edition??

i think thats about it for now. lol... that is the thing i love about this site...i enjoy learning and benefiting from the experience of those who have gone b4......and that everyone is so willing to help!!

thanx everyone......happy studying and nursing!!

well my daughter came home yesterday after enrolling at uni, with a 20% off card for the co-op bookstore at griffith logan campus.... so will do my research and this may be a cheaper option, as they stock the books i need.....lol as her 2 degrees arent nursing related they may wonder why she needs them...... hope not!

I actually did buy many of my books from ebay, but you can try textbookexchange.com.au where you contact people directly and arrange a time for pick up or postage - whatever suits you.

The year of the book does matter in that if you reference a book it needs to be printed/published within the last 5 years. I know with my Cert IV and now my degree that we had to stick by this. Nursing practice changes all the time, therefore different books change, so you need to be sure you are using current up to date information or you will lose marks (I know this from experience).

Ebay has lots of great buys, I have saved a fortune buying my books from there. The co-op will sell you books for both degrees though, they will be happy with the $$$.
Good luck in your studies and if you need a hand with anything else, please feel free to email me sharon.temby@hotmail.com.

Hey I am almost finished my EEN's in Brisbane, and I never rushed out to buy books. I spoke to the teachers and asked what they said was needed, and they told me what for what semester. So I bought a couple of what I needed in first semester, and used the library's copies (which could be borrowed for a month) of the other books I didnt need. When it came to the second semester I didnt even get what they said we needed as it was only used for a couple of classes and they printed off what we needed anyway, so I saved myself a couple of hundred lol. I honestly would not rush, just wait and see and talk to others and see what they had to say. Also see what the library has etc. Our library always keeps one copy that stays at the library so there was always one copy I could read if needed. I know of a couple of girls that had old editions and they were barely any different and still gave the correct information etc. Also check out your notice board at where you are studying or put a notice up, past students might be selling their copies etc. Good luck

You can also do a search in google books and most of the nursing books are online for you to read if you dont want to rush out and buy your books
