Hello everyone!

Hopefully I am allowed to post this even though I'm not enrolled for nursing yet. I have just submitted my VTAC application for Bachelor of Nursing degree next year - fingers crossed.

I have previously done one semester of a Bachelor of Nursing at university several years ago however for personal reasons at the time university wasn't for me.

In the meantime I have worked, travelled, completed my Certificate IV in Vet Nursing and been Vet Nursing for 3 years now. I feel I am ready to go back to university and complete my Bachelor of Nursing and am both excited/scared at the prospect. I feel like there are some similarities (patient care, communicating with wide variety of people, dealing with stressful situations) but I know it will be dramatically different to what I am used to.

Has anybody made a career change into nursing from something else? Any advice on being a mature-aged student (I'm in my mid-late 20's).

I have my fingers crossed for ACU, La Trobe, RMIT or Deakin in Melbourne! :)

Hello,

When I finished school I wasn't sure what I wanted to do so I did a diploma in Writing and Editing. I then worked as a legal secretary for a few years before I decided I wanted to be a nurse. I applied for a few different universities and got accepted into ACU as a mature aged student. I am in first year at the moment, about to finish and begin second year though!

The hardest part about going back to uni would be money. I am not used to living on a casual wage after getting full time rates for close to six years. Also, because I didn't want to be a nurse in high school I didn't do any biology/psychology classes so in that sense I am a little slower in learning those compared to the girls straight out of year 12 who have just learnt all of that.

My advice would be to make sure you are 100% sure this is what you want before you go enrolling. If I wasn't so certain and happy in this course I would not have lasted on such small wages and hard work.
