I graduated at the end of 2010, and still haven't found a nursing job of any kind, Aged care wont take grads due to the lack of funds to train me, and Queensland health do not employ graduates unless they have a grad job. and with 1600 grads at the end of 2010 in QLD only 600 got jobs there has to be others out there in my situation.

I apply for about 20 jobs a week please please help I want to be a nurse!!!

sorry to hear of your predicament. Have you tried physically knocking on doors...Even being there in person to hand in your resume can make a lot of difference as its shows that you are not just mass producing applications. I myself did not get into a grad program and I did just that. I got heaps of interviews and eventually got into the area that I was aiming for. Are you willing to relocate outside to regional hospitals? Good luck and I wish you the best.

Hi there,

Unfortunately I'm in the same position. It seems ironic that while we're on prac we take the place of a fully fledged staff member sometimes when they don't show up due to illness, but once we finish the course and are qualified, after spending over $10K on the course and with over 240 hours practical on the ground experience - its almost like no-one wants to know us?? I don't really understand, because I was told prior to the course that job prospects were good, and all media reports indicate a nursing shortage. I've been told I have a great way with patients, have excellent clinical references, along with really good personal references from facilitators- still no job. If anyone has some tips to get a foot in the door and get working I'd be grateful as well.

Hi GradNurse88 and Leebee,

I am sorry to hear about the situation that you two are in. I once found myself in a comparable one, but I managed to get myself out of that hole. Keep looking for nurse jobs everywhere you go and eventually something will come your way. Just remember that healthcare is needed all over the world, so you might have to broaden your search some if you are really in a need of a job. Best of luck and I hope this helps!
