For the ppl doing it part time, what was your subject selection?

Did you go off the study plan or not?

Im following the part-time study plan atm.   So for the first semester of study Im doing CUC100 Academic Literacies and SBI172 Anatomy and Physiology 2.    The A and P unit is going to take a fair bit of study on my part learning great detail of 5 of the body systems - there is an exam which is 60% of your overall mark.

goldrag1 did you send my a PM?   For some reason Im told I cant view it.   I will give you my email address if you need it.

I'm also doing full time, this is the first week though. I get one year off the course which is great. Good luck with your studies everyone.

Hi everyone, I just wanted to say welcome to CDU and good luck with your studies.  I'm also studying with them (first year) and so far it's been great.  There is a facebook page for Charles Darwin University Nursing Students if you are interested.  I'm not sure if I am allowed to post the link here.  :)

ladies, wow so glad to find you guys! i am so keen to study nursing and was just worried about doing it part-time. i would also have to do it part time i think as i am working full time, have 3 girls although my youngest is 14. hope the grey matter will still cope but really keen to get going. i think i will apply at CDU and CQU, do i have to apply through QTAC for the distance learning too? sorry but not up to speed with the uni, studying yet. But soooo excited :-)

Enigma,

I too am a single mum in Melbourne, returning to study and was looking at CDU. I was just wondering whether you now have any feedback on how it is all going?

Hi Nattynut, I'm doing full time which is 4 subjects. The subjects I'm doing this semester don't have exams, so they are assessed with assignments and essays. I'm finding it ok so far. I'm passing everything. I've actually been very disorganised and as I have 4 young kids it's hard to find time to study and I'm also working. I would recommend CDU so far, I'm happy with the course and there is plenty of support online and also discussion boards with other students and a group on facebook so there's people to chat to who are doing the same course. There is a Summer semester that starts in November and you could do a couple of the core subjects over Summer which would ease you into the course. I'm already an EN so I got one year of credit off the course. Anything else you want to know, feel free to ask.

Hi All Just to jump in on this conversation :)

Does anyone know how often you have to travel to Darwin/Alice Springs for the distance CDU Nursing degree?

As far as I can tell from a glance at the website - its 5 days a year??perhaps.

Also a newly created single mother, thinking of retraining....I have a Degree in Environmental Science from 11 years ago... Just need to consider all the logistics.  My son is only 2 in January - and as yet has never been away from me a night - i have limited support also - but my mantra of late 'if there is a will there is a way'....

Hi everyone.  I am sorry this is very long but I need some advice.
I am so very happy that you all seem so happy to be at CDU because I am so badly disappointed and dismayed with CSU to the point that I am now in such a hard spot.
I was flying along great for the first few weeks BUT there was NO SUPPORT from the lecturers, fellow students, supports staff etc. I had done 6 DL courses before this and I adore DL but I have never done a course on line that has never given brand new students a small booklet or an internet link to go to that takes them through step by step where everything you need is and where to find what you may need later. Instead you are just left to drown.
And example. We were or have been only studying 2 subjects for the last almost 6 months. They kept on saying that there was an assignment coming up. I went through all the assignment information looking for a date. I couldn't find one. Now anyone unsure would call the Lecturer and ask. Yes? Well at CSU they don't like to be approached with things especially when things are already all been explained. the date and time due for each and every assignment was in the couse information. But where??? See what I mean been thrown out to drown.
I even managed to get nastly told off like a 4 year old LOL 3 times in just over the first week for asking 3 basic questions.
A few weeks into the couse my son become suicidal and I had to stop studying to care for him. then I got sick and evrything wnt to Hell including the assignment which i finall found the date for it being due on the exact night it was due BUT 11 minutes after it's due time!!!
So they thought given the circumstances that I withdrawl without penality, which means I am still a CSU student and I just use this time that I have had nothing to do to studying and get ahead, but that hasn't happened. When school returns next year CSU I pick up the books again and re-start.
But I don't want to attend CSU anymore. I feel so let down and stressed by this school. I contacted CDU months ago and have applied for SAYAC and got approved before. In fact SATAC ened up paying for my whole EN coure. Even when I contacted the someone answere the phone straight away. An actual person! And I wasn't on hold for hours and he was very friendly.
I don't know though if I can just transfer from CSU to CDU though? Does anyone have any clues?
How are you all finding the studyng? Difficult? Much harder the EN? Or just more of it?
Cheers and thanks for reading. I hope your still awake. :-u

Redrecks, so sorry to hear about your stress and that's awful about your son. I can't believe they could be so unsupportive. This is my first time at Uni and first time with distance learning and I have just finished my first semester. Basically, i am half way through my degree already. I have found it a bit of a challenge as I am not used to academic writing but I have passed everything and done quite well so far. If you haven't actually completed any units at CSU then why don't you just enrol at CDU? We have a summer semester which starts shortly and I'm doing another unit over summer to get ahead.

ANGELAM - The 2 subjects that we were studying were Human Bioscience 2. Which I found was actually enjoyable and not too hard.
The other subject was, Sociology of Health and Health Care. Which is a 'dry' subject and has so many assignments, long one's with so many rules on spacing, letter size etc.
This was the subject that I looked everywhere for a date the first assignment was due.
ENIGMA -  Extreme stress over my son, plus the fact we had to spend an hour each way, driving to a major hospital and then waiting to be seen after 8 hours, took away a lot of study time BUT Dylan had to come first. And at least the lecturers in my 2 subjects were very sympathetic when i finally managed to speak to them.
AngelaM. I ended up making a phone appointment to speak to a Councellor at CSU who has helped me along with taking time off.
She even agreed with me that the website for the Uni, that we are supposed to have there to assist us with all our needs and stuff, is so confussing and a mess! So I am so glad that I am not the only one, even a member of staff, finds the site confusing. No wonder I was getting stressed over the site and not being able to find important things. Like assignment due dates.
I have decided to Withdraw without Penality from both subjects and not re-start again next season. Instead, if I can get my fee's for CSU erased, I will apply for CDU.

ENIGMA -What are the 4 subjects that you are doing at CDU?
I am really interested to know this information.
Also are you a 'Crazy Lady' ?!?! LOL You are doing another subject over summer? I didn't even know you could do that. Will that help you finish early?
How are you able to do this with kid's?
For the first time at being in Uni you sound like you are doing an awesome job. Keep up the great work.

The subjects I've completed this semester are Cultural Intelligence and Capability, Academic Literacies, Evidence based research and Psychosocial nursing. Over Summer I'm doing one that I would have to do later next year. I thought doing one over Summer would make it easier when I only have 3 units instead of 4 later on. I am working and single with 4 young kids and I'm not that organised but I managed to do everything. The subjects I started with were not that hard and I didn't study much, just did the basics and got the assessments done.

ENIGMA-That sounds like a fantastic idea.
And I am so pleased that you found the subjects not that hard.
It's funny how different things are from different Uni's. As those 2 subjects I mentioned is a whole, entire semeters worth! They are still going with assignments etc.
I would much pefer studying at CDU as there has been a tonne of positive feedback about this Uni and not about CSU.
I have missed studying like you wouldn't believe but with the diagnosis I got the other day from the Doctor as I have been not well myself also. Fix my son up and then my body falls apart, I WILL try and get back into study by getting ready for SATAC again....At least I have been through them before and still have all my stuff from last time I applied still altogether, as my brain is going to mush not doing something.
I commend you on how well you are doing.
Your a Melbourne girl too arn't you? I'm in Rye.
