Been offered a spot to start next year. Always thought I would be a good nurse but I mucked around at school and didnt get the grades so I ended up becoming a teacher (In the UK and have now moved to Sydney) I have been in a corporate role for 3 years and am slowly dying inside. I looked into doing teaching here but it wasnt possible (due to what I taught in the UK isn't a subject here) I applied for a Undergraduate degree and the Graduate entry (2years) just in case. I spoke to my partner and he isnt supportive at all, we have a mortgage and he said my loss of income would be to much to which he told me we would have to sell up and move to a smaller house or rent if I wanted to do the course, also, I am almost 30 and he said by the time I finish and then work I will be too old to start a family. I applied anyway and didnt think I would get it - I got accepted yesterday! I have spoken to my employer who is really supportive of me and said I can fit in paid work around my course. I haven't told my partner that I have been accepted as I am worried about what he will say - Any advice?

Congrats on getting your offer. I can understand your predicament but the reality is there is an extremely saturated market of graduate nurses with no work. Matgrad ure age students seems to be second on the list of offers compared to younger grads in their early 20s. Given this background, I would encourage you to check the job prospects in Sydney first before you decide to pursue. I hate to discourage people to pursue nursing, I love it and would love to see more come into this profession, however we still need to temper it with reality especially when finances are concerned. Good luck and all the best
