Hi guys,

I'm a first year nursing student and have just finished my first semester.

Unfortunantely I failed 2 of my 4 units. I struggled with them alot and found it really hard to settle into uni and moving away from home was extra pressue. Not making excuses though, I know it's my own fault. Anyways, I was wondering if this is going to effect job perspectives in the future? I'm particularly worried about it effecting my entry into Grad Year Programs. I know the one I am keen on only has 50 places available.

I have to make up the units next year, but they will still show up on my university transcript, correct? Even if I pass them the next time around?

Just after thoughts/advice etc.

Cheers!

i know plenty of people who failed subjects and it did not affect their ability to get a good grad year at major hospitals. There will be an allowance in the interview to explain why you failed the subjects (if they even ask, they may not as it was first year).

Yes this will show up on your final academic transcript but dont worry it is not the end of the world you have the next 2 years to make it up. It is a huge transition going from high school to uni. Nursing is a tough course to get through.

keep your head up!

Elleb, Don't worry too much...what's happen is not uncommon and I know emploers are acutely aware of the difficulty transiting from a more "laid back" year 12 to Uni which is like landing on Mars. I am certain that you will do well, just hunker down with some more experienced 2nd or 3rd year students which most Unis have as mentors for first year students like yourself. Mentors not only guide you with things you need to do but also encourage you. All the best and be positive....:)

my friend failed 2 subjects while at uni and got a job so no, it doesnt really affect your grad program hunting. Just put your head down and try extra hard over the next 2 years and show them what you are made of!
