Hi all,

After having a deep thought about accepting or refusing the offer to do Masters in Nursing (Graduate Entry) with University of Sydney , sydney campus, starting from March 2011 (2 years full time course), I decided to post my confusion here on this forum to get your opinions.

I have 18 months old baby and my husband is full time shift worker working 24 * 7. He is committed to work sometimes starting 1 am in the morning and sometimes finishing 2:16 am in the morning. Our concern is the clinical practice that I will have to take during the course. There will be no one to look after the baby when I will be required to work 1pm to 9pm Shift at 45 Kms away from my home and my husband will be working 6:58pm to 2:33 am (for example) shift. No child care is available after 7pm. SImillarly, the another shift during placement is 7am to 3 pm and if I am required to travel 45-50 Kms to start that shift , leaving home at 5:30 am and my husband is doing 1:23 am to 9:36 am shuft (for example), there is no child care that starts at 5am. There is unfortunately no family member or friend to help.

I talked to the student advisor and clinical placement officer and acording to them they will help me with the placement close to my home but they can't guarantee that it will be available. I think I can manage close to home 7am to 3 pm shift but again it will be difficult to manage close to home, after noon shift clashing husband's afternoon shift.

I am working full time 8am to 4 pm at the moment and don't want to quit this job if I am not sure that I will manage with the placements and its times.
I really want to do Nursing and this will be a great opportunity but due to this restriction I am not sure if I should accept the offer for now.

Has anyone has gone through such confusion before and how did they manage?

Any opinion, suggestion, help, advice is appreciated.

Regards,
Selni.
