Haha! I think not....it's all part and parcel. good to know how to clean it up due to infection control etc, so yes, it does help the learning! I am only 2 units into my degree, however have also been studying cert III Aged Care and learning about the correct way to clean it up, what to use, how to dispose, etc etc. Important, as well as caring for the person in question. I am sure they do not enjoy the situation themselves! :) If ya dont want to clean up poo, then ur in the wrong profession!

i think this is a pretty poor excuse for a nurse, or even a student to say this. I have just begun PSA work at a small hospital before I go to uni next year to study nursing. On my first day, I made about 20 cups of tea, and did clean up poo. It was a little rough for a first day, but cleaning up the poo did teach me things about basic hygiene and the importance of making patients move their bowels before a shower...i learned the hard way, but it's a valuable lesson to avoid future embarrassment for when i do become a RN if nothing else.

As a student nurse I have no problem with cleaning up poo, so long as by the time my placement is finished I have been given sufficient opportunity to meet my prescribed learning objectives as well.
