hello,

i am wondering if anyone has any suggestions on preparing to sit the VETASSESS test. i have already looked on the vetassess site and they just dont have enough practise questions!!!! i am applyin to do cert IV at kangan batman tafe in melb and they suggest doing the short briding course before sitting the VETASSESS but i am applying for the Cert IV course beginning in july and so the test falls just as the short course is beginning and therefore i wont be able to apply any of the skills from the course yet.

Are there any other ways that you prepared for the VETASSESS that you found helped?

thanks,

liz

hi Liz,
ive just replied to you on you other post too!! : )

i sat the Vetassess a few months back. to be honest, its sort of difficult to study for bcos its really just basic english/grammar and maths. in my case, ive got really strong english skills but pretty shabby maths skills. so i got 40/40 for the english stuff and 28/40 for the maths...which i was pretty happy with bcos ive always been hopeless with maths.

most important is to pace your time well thru the test. if you come across questions you find really difficult, move on the the next question and come back to the hard ones last. if you waste too much time on the hard ones you lose too much time. most of the maths is fairly simple stuff- and for ME to say that means its easy : ) however there were some questions that i looked at and knew that id take too long to to figure out so i went on to the next one.

the english was basic comprehension, being able to put the appropriate words in to a blank space in a sentence, read a page of writing and then answer some questions on what you read. The practice test on the Vetassess website in my opinion is a pretty good indicator of the real test, except that the real one is longer. if you can do the practice one without too many problems, then id say you'll be fine in the real test. i didnt study, but i did go thru the practice test.

by the way, if your applying to Kangan, then you should look into RMIT @Bundoora as you mustnt be too far from there either?? they also usually have a mid year intake.

hope this helps. feel free to ask any questions if you need to!

thanks jules74,

you have been a big help (on both posts :) so thanks heaps!!!! i will now def go ahead and sit the VETASSESS test. i pretty much suck at maths having not done it since probably year9 at school, but have found going through the explanations on the practice exam on the website quite cruisy. (and my partner is a darn genius when it come to maths, so at least i have a tutor), and i can handle the literacy part. so it now means that i'll be heading out to wodonga to sit the test in march as the one here in melb is already booked up (shows how much competition there is). and thanks to your advice, i did look up the RMIT site and it says to look back in may for details of their midyear intake, so if i dont get accepted at kangan, i will just try there!!!

thanks so much, wish me luck :)
