You can become a AIN from second year nursing after completing, I believe, two placements. I'm second year part-time so can't apply until after this year (I've been told). I do however work at the hospital as a Patient Services Assistant which is a great opportunity - yes there is cleaning, yes there is mortuary duties, but there is also a lot of patient assist working with nurses and basically having the opportunity to learn a lot of things that will ultimately help with your degree (I've only been in the job 3 months and found a lot of things useful so far). And it pays more than an AIN gets :)
