hi guys,

i was just wondering if anyone has transferred uni's before?

i'm currently in my second semester at acu but don't really like it. i also miss being back at home and was thinking of transferring to deakin.

i know i would have to start in first year, but would i get credit for any units? such as nursing practice and biology? i think a few of the units would match up, at least i hope.

any thoughts/experiences that may help?

Hi elleb,

I have ACU as my first choice in the VTAC application, for if I don't get into the Masters at Melbourne.

What don't you like about ACU? I went to the open day last weekend and it was madness in the department but most of that seemed to be large families with the prospective students having parents and siblings with them, and it was difficult to get talk time with the staff due to them being hogged by over-zelous parents!! but I figured all this could be overlooked as the practive facilities were quite impressive.

Deakin is my 3rd choice, mainly because of location. If we lived closed then then things would be different!

Good luck with the change if you decide on it.

Ian.

hey,

you should contact deakin to find out for sure if any of your classes will give you credits.

I'm at University of Ballarat. and i hated it. all the way up until third year. If you can, stick to it, because you are so close to finishing.

I'll be finished in 3 months and am so glad i stayed. I still hate ballarat but love nursing.

good luck.

hi holsdad,

As ACU is very small, there's not alot to get involved with on campus. I hear of other uni's with alot of different clubs to join and a very lively social atmosphere, where as ACU doesn't offer any of that. I also feel like it is very disorganised. I think the leap in numbers gradually from 80 to 180 nursing student within 2 years has taken it's toll and is overwhelming for such a small university. Please keep in mind that I am at Ballarat ACU, and this might differ from the Melbourne Campus.

Hey allydahly,

Thats a bummer that you don't like BU. my best friend goes there and she loves it. I often regret not going there. I think I will try to contact deakin and see what options are available.

Hi Elleb,

Yep, completely understand where you are coming from. When I did my I.T. degree I was young(er) and got involved in plenty of sports & social clubs n stuff. This time I'm old(er) and have kids, house, dog, wife demanding my attention so clubs are merely a dream!!! :'o(

Best of luck with whatever you decide. I changed Uni's and city when I did IT and it was a great move, plus I met my future wife! so the change can work out :)

If you want a quiet atmosphere definantly go to ACU then, as the reputation is very good.

I've had alot of people try to talk me out of deakin because the "reputation is bad" and apparently i will be "struggling to find a job and be left unemployed". Personally I didn't think it really mattered where nurses went to uni. So now I'm quite upset and just as confused.

I just hope it works out.

hey there,

in my opinion i would stay @ acu. i graduated from nursing @ acu and i have also been to uni @ RMIT (not for nursing) in my opinion you will find aspects that you dont like about uni anywhere you attend. Nursing is only a 3 year course. I can say that i felt at times i hated uni, but is it worth going back to first year for? ACU is a competitive course to complete. Although I did graduat from ACU melb so dont know what ballarat is like i would stick it through. Many uni's are expanding in class size as they are allowing more and more international and fee paying students. Keep your mind on the goal of graduating and trust me the 3 years really does fly by! I myself loved the curriculum of ACU and the course in general. There were some administrative frustrations but try that with a uni three times the size...ultimately it is your decision and hope you get to the right decision for you :)

Good Luck with everything!
