I'm starting an EN course next year and completed my cert 3 last year.

Earlier in the year I began looking for work in Aged Care but found it hard because places wanted people to have at least 6 months experience.

i ended up getting a job doing home care but it was terrible and I left after 3 months. Now I'm looking at finding employment in an Aged Care facility but I get rejected from lack of experience.

i think just about every nursing home has rejected me. What should I do?

i really want to work in Aged Care because it will be good experience for my nursing.

Hi Gemla - don't give up! Ensure your CV reflects that you have 3 months experience community carer work: get two reliable references: put down also you are enrolled to start your EN course in 2015 and have already completed Cert III in Aged Care. Make sure your CV gets into the hands of the person in charge: ask the receptionist at the facility the email address of the hiring manager/head of care so you can directly email them: look up some students you did your course with and start networking and ask them if there are any jobs where they are working - most jobs are filled by people who know people whether they have 6 months experience or not! Offer to go on the casual pool or complete buddy shifts in your own time (not paid) - if all fails, call the facility and ask to volunteer with the Diversional Therapist to help out activities etc and then get to know people that way and move into a position from there. Keep trying - you will only benefit from the experience once you begin EN. Good luck !
