Hi,

I completed my degree at Uni, and have worked either in a hospital setting or community.  I am an RN about to start in a brand new care home.  I have absolutely no idea about what role I will be performing.

AIN's will be doing showers, pills and beds.

From my understanding RN's will be doing PRN meds and PRN s4s and s8s.    We will be doing BGL's and insulins, wound care.

So what is it that I will be doing other than looking lost!??

If your an RN working in an aged care home please fill me in!  Tomorrow at training I am going to bug someone till they tell me.  In the meantime can someone help?

Hi Tanbee, I work in aged care facilities as EEN and can let you know that RNs at my facility share a lot of jobs with EENs including Doctor's rounds; family conferences; updating care plans; admission assessments; ACFI assessments etc. It also pays to be well versed with facility policy as you will be expected to know what documentation/procedure to follow if there is a resident fall; aggression; incident; abnormal behaviour etc. plus RNs also have responsibility for filling any roster changes, ensuring there is appropriate skill mix on the floor and dealing with resident family and staff queries/complaints/problems. A lot of the job relates to management of staff actually and relying on communication from your carers and EENs on the floor so you can keep abreast or ahead of any potential problems. Take care and best of luck! :)
