Hi there

I am wondering if there is anyone out there who has started working in community nursing and what their thoughts are about it. Is it what you expected? Your feelings about it? Anything....

LOVED my role in community nursing in sydney!! shame there aren't more jobs on the ground.  Also the area of which I would love to live is surrounded by hills/cliffs.  I cannot drive up steep hills with drop offs, so it is stopping me from applying for community positions as they couldn't guarentee me a set area of work.

In sydney I had my area I worked in.  Plus it was pretty much all flat.  I have observed that different areas of the state or even sydney have different expectations of community nurses.  In the west of sydney community nurses did wound care, paliative care and child and family health.   In sutherland shire it was completely different and included showering. In the central west it includes showering and home care etc.

I enjoyed my work in sydney west I concentrated on wound care, and palliation.  I loved it!!

I would ask people to ask what scope of care they would be giving in their role before committing or applying for a job.  I applied for a job with community in sutherland and was surprised when I got the interview that it was nothing like what was happening in sydney west.
