I trained as EN 1987 in NZ - hospital based Training programme. Anyway prior to migrating here in Australia only 6 months ago now. I registered with APHRA 2 months before departure (in Aug 2013). I am now registered with same as EN - Div 2. I notice here in Aus there are a lot of positions advertised for EENs - could some one please explain to me the difference in terms of "Medication Endorsed/ment???" or EEN and EN Div 2??? It is my understanding that the later can dispense MEDNs (I was doing so in NZ having worked in Wellington Public Hospital for 5 years prior to my resignation in Aug 2013) and also what I interpreted from APHRA. The confusion and frustration occurs when asked at interview stage on applying for any EN positions employers ask "Can you dispense Meds?" Which I reply "yes" then I am asked "Where does it state on your registration?" ... ??? !!! APHRA inform me they only give medication Endorsements to Midwives or NP which is understandable.

My EN registration states: Enrolled Nurse (Division 2) with General Registration. Notations - nil. Conditions - nil. Undertakings - nil.

Please help as this is very frustrating!

Awaiting your replies fellow ENs

Yep, no such thing as an EEN now, even though you still will get places that call them that, even in job ads. There are a) "old" ENs that later did the meds administration course, b) "old" ENs that never did the meds administration course and c) "new" ENs (in particular now that it's a Diploma not a Cert IV) that have meds administration included in their program. Group A used to be called Endorsed Enrolled Nurses, but because there are so few Group B nurses now, AHPRA now only mention when someone *doesn't* have the accreditation to administer meds by having the notation of: ‘Does not hold Board-approved qualification in administration of medicines’. If the notation is not there, then they are good to do meds. See more at http://www.nursingmidwiferyboard.gov.au/Codes-Guidelines-Statements/FAQ/Enrolled-nurses-and-medicine-administration.aspx

The term 'endorsement' is now reserved for the NPs, RMs and really isolated RNs that have done the extra training to actually prescribe some meds without a doctor.

Unless the notations and conditions stat that you are not qualified to do meds you are basically equal to a pca. So yes technically you are an endorsed enrolled nurse who can give meds. It's the board that changes the code on it and just call them enrolled nurse as the endorent is now standard practice as an enrolled nurse. Hope that helps. good luck
