Hi I am 48 years old and have been working in administration for 30 years.  When I was at school I wanted to do nursing and I am now thinking of studying Enrolled Nursing here in Perth.  Am I too old to start a career in nursing, I haven't studied in 30 years.  Can anyone recommend where to start.  Thank you.

Hi Jen

I could have written your post!  I was the same just over 3 years ago.  I had wanted to be a nurse since my teens (I'm now 48) Early 2012 I was chatting to a work colleague, and mentioned that I had always wanted to be a nurse.  They said why don't you do it now? You're kids are older etc etc.  So I went home and googled and found Gold Coast TAFE which had the enrolled course online.  Which meant I could continue to work part time and do the study in MY time.  Assessments etc were all done online - I just had to attend 3 residential schools on the Gold Coast each semester (3 semesters) Part time meant I did it over 2 yrs and not 18 mths.  I live in Brisbane.  So I'm not sure what you have available in Perth.  You can do the TAFE Gold Coast course online if you're prepared to travel to the Gold Coast for the residential schools (good excuse for a holiday!)

You are definitely NOT too old!!  I finished half way through last year and got a grad program at the hospital where I did most of my prac.  Finished the grad program in February this year and am now a permanent member of staff!  I am so glad I listened to my friend.  This is what I am meant to be doing X-D
