Hi Missy E,

congratulations on finishing your course, I assume that was for EN from your information.

Of course it is natural to feel nervous before embarking on something new. If you are finding it difficult to settle, then agency might not be the best course of action for you. The stability of a single employer and learning their systems may mean that you can focus more on delivering good care than having to work out the different policies and routines of different employers. But once you jump in an start working you will work out what is best for you.

Adding on starting a Div 1 course will certainly add to your stress, so take care of yourself.

G'day mate! I finished the Enrolled nursing course last september, i started working in December for Belmore nurses agency, and I tell you I was shitting myself!! Ive been doing agency for 4 months and now im getting better, but there is still many things i need to learn, now ive decided that i dont want to do agency anymore so im applying for positions, there really isnt a huge amount of job opputunities for div 2's, but slowly they are coming up. Its actually quite hard to get work as a div 2, i think you are better doing the div 1 course, but anyway keep going and you will find that it gets easier as time goes by. Agency work can be hard though especially for newbies

Hi all

Just wondering how long it took you to get registered?

I graduate in August as a EEN and i'm scared too, especially trying to remember the name's of all the medications and what they are for.

Also, what is the role of a AIN? i am doing AIN work fro a agency but it seems like personal care work to me. What is the difference?

Hey greentreefrog,

The difference between a AIN and a personal care worker is no different exept for the pay. They have tried to change the AIN position as under the QNC no one is allowed to call them self a nurse if they are not registered to do so. Therefore I am quit out raged that personal carers do the same work and get paid less. I personally think the personal carers should do low care work and AIN should do high care work. Its all a little silly and makes things very confusing as Queensland health still employes AAIN. AAIN have been proven competent to do vital signs and BSL. In saying this some places are getting AINs to do meds which all EN (Med) knows you should give out medications unless you know what there for and the adverse affects that they can have. But as I said they are not under any regulations so as long as its pre packed and they do a compentcey thats ok... I suppose out in the community you would give out their pre packed meds. Just remember its not ment to be actully administering but assisting there is a difference.

Hey, if you aren't nervous then it would be a worry. Just remember. People will NOT expect you to know everything. Tell them you have only just graduated. Ask questions!

When you finish your course you haven't finished learning, you are just beginning,.And things change sooo much over the years.

Best of luck
